As you can imagine I am emailed and phoned daily for partnerships with new vendors and creatives. I will tell you that in my almost 15 years in the business, I have never hired/worked with someone because they emailed me.
It's all about relationships.
I understand the need for powerful relationships in this industry as I strongly believe those are what make us as successful as we are. We would love an opportunity to connect with each new creative partnership but that sometimes proves challenging due to a limited amount of time, juggling our client needs, running two businesses, networking, and being there for our own families.
Our best advice to connect with venues, planners, etc is to attend industry networking events as there are several great associations we are involved with often like ILEA, NACE, and WIPA to name a few. I also am a big advocate for furthering education so we have attended Engage Summits and The Special Event + Catersource many times. Get out there and connect with people face to face! Then, if and when you see me…come up to me and say hello!!! Tell me something about yourself as I am VERY chatty and love to talk with people…especially strangers.
A few things you should know:
We serve all people and do not discriminate. We expect our partners to do the same.
We give back and are involved in the community and notice others that are also. We appreciate when our partners offer to be involved with our charity events or become involved. I don’t need your referral fee. I’d rather it go to something greater.
If you aren’t a solution architect, don’t bother reaching out.
We only work with people that are positive and uplifting to the entire creative team. Let’s face it, this industry has long hours, includes a ton of hard work and none of us will be millionaires but we do this because we must love it. Please let it be known that you do love your job with your positivity. No complainers aloud and we have to have our clients best intentions in mind. Always.
